June 15, 2009 Owen-Spalding Climbing Route

Back in 2025, a friend was asking for some photos from a previous trip up the Grand. We haven't found his photos but we found some photos from two trips in 2009 which somehow got saved. We decided to republish this trip.

We were using a Samsung pocket camera with a small zoom. These photos have been resized for the blog and have lost some clarity in the process but they're some of the better ones from that time.

The majority of our older photos were lost or trashed or crashed as we transitioned between several fee-based hosting platforms in the early 2000s before settling on the free Blogger platform which allowed us to spend less time coding (and not pay for a domain name and hosting services). Along the way, a few hard drives crashed. Many backup CDs were tossed. Many photos weren't very good.

We still have about 12 hard drives with images—several pulled out of busted laptops and desktops. The rest are external drives. Not all appear to be working but they might recover with the right hardware. Hasn't really been a priority and probably never will be. More than likely, they will also get tossed.

We often took over 500 photos on each trip. A few went over 700. This trip resulted in 509 pictures. About 70 are shared below.

On this day, we had the mountain to ourselves while climbing above the Central Rib. Two descending climbers passed us by the Chockstone Chimney area and that was it.

Unfortunately, these photos are not in any particular order due to the loss of some editing software with yet another laptop....
